Here’s Joe!

Joe is the guy that I made the Smith & Wesson SWHRT7T sheath for. He’s currently stationed in the Middle-East and keeping things running for our troops.  I have to say that I’m even impressed that the knife fit the sheath perfectly (or the other way around). The technique that we use here at Dragonthorn Leatherworks to manufacture leather items without the “actual” item works pretty well. In this case, as I understand, it worked perfectly. According to Joe “Yes, the knife fit well. I feel much more safe with it in the extremely sturdy sheath, as it is so sharp it was dangerous to carry before.” Happy to help Joe. Stay safe man.  DH For more pics of the sheath and...

What’s on the bench?

I thought it might be a good idea to let everyone know what I have working on the shop bench at the moment. I tend to work on multiple projects at a time as I can shift from project to project while pieces are drying from dye application, glue, etc. So… what’s on the Dragon Bench currently? 1) A Double Pancake cell phone case to hold an iPhone 5 in a Lunitik Taktik Extreme and a BlackBerry Bold. I originally created this sheath to hold two knives, one on top of the other but designed to be separately extracted when needed. The customer thought this would be an interesting case to have as he carries both his personal iPhone and business BlackBerry at the same...

First www.The-Gadgeteer.com contest award winner

In early November of this year (2012) my PCS design (Pocket Carry System) was reviewed by Julie Strietelmeier of The-Gadgeteer.com (you can read the review here). After a few days Julie and I got together and decided to run a contest for her readers PCS designs with the winners being awarded a full custom PCS, A lined PCS kit and an unlined PCS kit (contest here). We received quite a few excellent entries and the readers of Julie’s blog voted on and selected three that they thought should win. The contest entries and winners can be viewed on Julie’s website here. I have just finished the 1st place winners PCS and thought you might like to see his original design and the...

New Pipe Bag Debuting at the 2014 Chicago Pipe Show!

As mentioned in earlier posts the new iBriar/Dragonthorn Leatherworks Pipe Bag is being shown for the first time at the 2014 Chicago Pipe today! A lot of work went into this design. Chris Lee of iBriar and I have worked long and hard to bring this very innovative pipe bag design to you. It currently comes in two sizes (medium for 4-7 pipes and large for 6-10 pipes). Check it out on the Dragonthorn Leatherworks web site at this link https://dragonleather.net/pipe-bag-orikawa/ . The two bags debuting at the show are but a sample of the possibilities with this design. Keep checking back as we will be further developing this concept as we go forward. ...

Marvin the Martian

Marvin the Martian

I do not normally put up pictures of every PCS I create as there are just too many and I am afraid it would overwhelm my webpage speed. However, in this case I really did want to make a more “whimsical” post about the PCS you see in the pics above. My client “Brian”, aka “Cartoon Freak” wanted a PCS to carry his favorite Zippo lighter, a small lock-back knife and a prized possession, his Bugs Bunny challenge coin (or his “fiddle coin” as his wife likes to say). We had a few email conversations back and forth (and I of course suggested a few necessary reasons that his wife should agree to the manufacture of a custom PCS)...
