What is “Custom Leatherwork”

Custom Leatherwork (kəstəmˈ leT͟Hərˌwərk) “The art of actualizing unique one-of-a-kind creations out of leather to a client’s particular designs or wishes. Also known in certain circles as bespoke”. That is my definition of actual high end serious custom leatherwork. When you start your search for a specialized truly custom leathersmith it’s going to be hard, prepare yourself. There are many leathersmiths and leather companies on the internet. Some bad, some good and some really really good. Unfortunately, due to the way the web works, it’s not always the really good ones that come up at the top of the internet search engines. Many leathersmiths consider and call...

Dragonthorn teams with “Incendiary NPC’s” performance group!

I have spent a good bit of time at Ren Faires in my life and have found them to be quite a bit of excellent fun! Dragonthron Leatherworks is doing something a bit different with our proud sponsorship of “Incendiary NPC’s” a Fire Performance and Side Questing Experiance Group! They perform at various events throughout the MidWest and are gaining quite a following. They do, well, amazing fire displays as well as being guides for side quests during events (as you can see from the pic above and those below). Helia, the fire master, contacted me a few weeks ago with interest in the Leather Wrist Bracers I make. They can be quite expensive as they are...

It’s been a tough and busy year

Whew… back in the saddle again as they say. This has been a really busy year for me, both personally and professionally. I am getting ready to take Dragonthorn to the next level of custom leather work and its a job I tell you. Lots of time has been spent on the webpage (on the backend) making it easier to navigate. Much has been done as well on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that my page rankings would increase. And you know what?, it worked! Dragonthorn Leatherworks is now back on page one of Google for custom leatherwork. I have now added a Pinterest page, worked on the Facebook page, added a LinkedIn page and a Google+ page. Now I’ve got to find the...

Updates from Dragonthorn

Well, with success comes a good bit of heartache and hard decisions. Over the past year I have worked hard to take Dragonthorn Leatherworks to the next level. New webpage, new content, new projects and very many new learning curves. During Dragonthorn Leatherworks history I have always been striving to push and challenge myself to give my customers better, more unique and very high end custom leather projects. With all of that said a couple of things just need to happen. First, prices have got to go up. Wholesale leather prices have not only increased but it is getting harder and harder to find high quality leather as easy as it once was. As well, tools, dyes and...

Hawg Hunt

I do not often get the opportunity to see how my sheaths have done in the field (people are too busy using them). However, just received a few pics from a couple of West Virginia hog hunters that let me know the knives and “sheaths” did great. Select “read more”, click on the link and scroll down.  “After the...

Dragon Smoke, a new light weight leather line from Dragonthorn

Well, where do we start this? Perhaps an explanation of my thoughts concerning custom leatherwork or actually any leatherwork at all. There are many great leather crafters on the market. Some are individuals such as myself. Some are companies that have extremely skilled craftsman working for them. I spend a good bit of time on the internet searching competitors and their products as well as specific products that turn up on review type websites. What I have determined over a period of time is really two things. One, much of the leather work products being produced today are heavy, good quality but heavy. Leather is normally not a light weight product. The thicker it is...
