Can’t say that I have seen a “Custom” cell phone sleeve and cases out and about. If you think about it, this may be an area where you can really stand out. You can be as loud or as refined as you’d like. This sleeve is a prototype that has been in use for about a year now and is wearing very well. This particular sleeve is constructed of Iguana for the front, 1/2 oz. oil tanned leather for the back and calf-skin for the lining. The individual carrying this sleeve for the past year requested a simple sleeve which is easy to insert and extract the phone from. Custom options are many and include various facing materials (can be exotics or plain leather), various backs and can be lined with calf-skin, suede, or be left untouched. Cellphone cases can be made as sleeves or as belt cases, either vertical or horizontal with various clips, snaps and fasteners. As well I can hand carve names, initials or patterns into the leather itself. The limit is only bound by your imagination. Basic prices start at $125.00  DH

Just finished, a mini tablet portfolio! This piece was designed for a customer in Virginia to hold an iPad Mini, a Moleskine Cahier notebook, an iPhone 5, assorted pens/pencils, reading glasses, and s small set of business cards. In addition it has a gusseted flap on the back to hold up to 3 loaded letter size file folders. All of this an its only 1″ thick! (depending on just how you stuff it of course).  The design elements are similar to the “Ultimate iPad Case” by Dragonthorn  Leathersworks which includes top quality leather, sueded lining and no extras to increase its bulk. This particular case is made of 3-4oz. oil tanned leather with orange stitching (nice touch I think). The mini-tablet fits in a pouch on the front of the case with he  Moleskine Cahier notebook beside it. The cellphone (iPhone 5), pens, glasses and business cards are all in a removable sleeve in a pouch behind the tablet and notebook. The pouch on the back of the portfolio is fully gusseted and will hold up to .5″ of file folders and papers. I finished the edges a bit differently on this one. Oil tanned leather does not hold a burnish very well so I located some very high quality Italian Edge paint to finish it off. As info, Italian edge paint is the product used on most very high end bags, purses, and wallets and such. As these pieces are fully custom designed and built they can be made in any configuration to fit any size tablet by any manufacturer and can carry any selection of items. Cell Phone Belt Case by Dragonthorn. I carry this one personally as a prototype and love it so much that I am opening it up to custom orders. I carry a pretty high end phone (Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8) and have never been satisfied with the leather belt cases on the market. The cases out there hold the phone sure, however, they just don’t have the pizzazz that I like to see. They also tend to be pretty thick and not formed to the phone. I developed this piece as I needed something in brown leather that reminded me of the old US Calvary belt pouches from the middle 1800’s.

This particular case is made from 3-4oz. vegetable tanned leather, dyed a rich deep cognac brown and is lined with calfskin. The fastening mechanism is a miniature Sam Brown Stud like those used in the 1800’s (but smaller). Mine is brushed/antiqued brass but the case can be made with nickel plated hardware if you prefer a natural steel look. I have also added a finger slot on the bottom of the case to make it easier to slip the phone in and out of the case but to be honest, I don’t use it much.

This case can be made with any leather and lined with any material you prefer. I tend to line my work with either calfskin, pigskin or suede as I prefer 100% leather products to come out of my shop. Colors are limited only by your imagination. As long as I can get the professional leather dye in the color you prefer I can make the case any color you’d like. The base price for the case as you see it is $145.00. I will make it unlined for $125.00. If you prefer a different clip, belt loop, etc., just let me know. Double Pancake Cell Phone Case… a what? Another very unique item from Dragonthorn. I have made these in the past for folding knives and the latest knife sheath was made out of deerskin for a customers fathers day present for her Dad (you can view it here). The customer receiving this baby carries his personal phone, an iPhone 5 in a Lunatik Taktik Extreme case, and his business phone, a BlackBerry Bold daily. I’m not sure how many of you have this same situation (carrying two phones daily) but I do have personal experience with it and it’s a royal pain in the butt!. The client saw my deerskin case (linked above) on the web and thought, “hey, this will work!’ so he contacted me and away we went. I needed to highly modify my original knife case design as the Lunatik case is much wider than any folding knife would be. In addition the client wanted the bottom of the case to ride no lower than 1 inch below his belt.

This case is made of 3-4oz. vegetable tanned leather and is dyed black using Fiebings professional oil dye. The outside of the case is then finished with Fiebings leather balm with atom wax and hand rubbed to a high finish. The interior of the case is lined with a tan pigskin and is stitched with a heavy ivory thread for contrast. To finish this case off I have included a small pocket behind the BlackBerry pouch on the top flap to carry cash, credit cards, keys, etc. This case as shown is $200.00 plus shipping and handling. Expensive?, yes it is. Realize however that you don’t get a case this unique and with this level of craftsmanship inexpensively.  This design also lends itself to EDC (Every Day Carry) and can be configured to carry any number and types of items as well as a cell phone.
