Leather Tablet Sleeve for my Dell venue 8 Pro. This one is pretty rustic and minimal. The Venue 8 Pro is a great little tablet running Windows 8.1 and is very handy. I needed something to give it a bit more protection so I decided to create this sleeve. I consider this leather tablet sleeve as another product in the “Dragon Smoke” line. Full custom leather, no frills, looks good, great protection and I do get many comments when pulling it out in the board room (alas, I do have a “real” job).

This leather tablet sleeve is made of 3-4oz. vegetable tanned leather and is dyed a rich Cognac red/brown. The thread is a natural nylon ivory for contrast. The edges are finished in a black dye and high polished. You will note color variations in the leather. This is both a natural effect and by design based on the way I apply the dye. Sometimes I just like a piece of leather to have a bit more character. The sleeve is unlined but sueded. The advantage to this process is that the sleeve stays light weight but the sueded effect on the backside of the vege-tanned leather offers a smooth soft surface to keep scratches away. Base price for this leather tablet sleeve is $125.00. Any customization is possible and I can add any name. initials, logo etc. as required for an extra fee.

This iPad with keyboard play through case is another item in the “Dragon Smoke” light weight line from Dragonthorn Leatherworks. The customer that is using this baby specifically wanted a rustic/rugged, light weight, no frills case to carry both his iPad and his Logitech Ultra-Light Keyboard. What makes this case a bit different is that it is indeed “light weight”. So many iPad and Tablet cases on the market made to carry both the tablet and keyboard are so over designed that they are bulky as well as heavy. Electronics are heavy enough all by themselves so you really don’t need additional leather or layers that are not necessary. This case fits the bill perfectly.

This case is made of 3-4oz. vegetable tanned tooling leather which is treated with Fiebings Neetsfoot oil for protection and to give it a nice golden tone which will darken as it ages. It is not lined but instead has the interior (or backside of the hide) sueded for a soft touch and non-scratch protection. In addition the closure mechanism is magnetic which adds a nice touch. You will also note that the keyboard and tablet are held in place by utilizing only one strip of molded leather for each item. Why didn’t I add one at the top as well? Simple, it’s not needed. Once you slip the keyboard and tablet into their respective molded slots they remain secure, especially when the case is closed and latched with the magnet. The customer also requested that his specifically designed initials be carved into the front of the case for an extra touch.

This case starts at $200.00 as you see it. If you prefer not to have the hand carved initials deduct $25.00. I can as well create this case with any number of various closing mechanisms (magnets being just one of many). This Light Weight Portfolio is the first in a new line of Dragonthorn Leatherworks products. The customer that ordered this portfolio requested something he could not find (like many of my customers). He wanted a portfolio to hold a standard 8.5″ x 11″ legal pad that was very simple. Little to no stitching, no lining, no pockets, no pen loop… just plain and simple “high end” leather crafting. He as well wanted the portfolio to closely match a leather briefcase he already carried. I developed this portfolio by utilizing 3-4oz. vegetable tanned tooling leather (light weight, flexible and dyes well), grooved the center with 3 channels to allow for easy and perfect folding, and added a 2.5″ panel stitched with only 4 stitches to hold the legal pad perfectly tight within the portfolio. The inside of the portfolio is sueded and has been left the natural color. This leaving of the inside of the portfolio a natural color while dyeing the outside to match his briefcase is not overly complicated but does take time and a certain amount of skill sets with leather and the properties of dyes. Too much at the wrong time and the dye soaks through to the inside. Take your time and know what you are doing and you get a dark outside and natural inside. Suede the inside of the leather and you have a soft surface without the need for a lining. Takes time, but worth it. The finishing touch is the burnishing of the portfolio edges. We decided to leave the edges a natural color vs. dyeing them a darker brown. Adds a nice touch. These can be made to fit any pad of paper, notebook and is perfect for Moleskine brand products. This particular piece starts at $120.00. As with all of the products from Dragon Leather, full and additional customization is possible.
