Kydex and Sheepskin Lined Sheath, …say what? I know, here I go again. I was contacted by a customer in California that had just purchased a Busse Combat Sarge 7. Now, as this is a $400.00 plus dollar knife the customer wanted a really nice piece of leather to show it off with, plus a way to keep it very well protected. Hence a combination leather, kydex and sheepskined lined piece of work. The outer leather shell of the sheath is constructed of 4-5 oz. Horsehide that has been dyed a medium cognac brown and is finished with Atom Wax. There is an attached loop for a Swedish Firesteel Army model. The belt loop is designed for a high hip carry on the right side or...
Read MoreChefs Knife Bag, where else are you going to store and carry those insanely nice food prep knives you’ve bought? These pics are a bit older so I offer my apologies. This particular piece was custom made for a chef in Belgium. His wife was looking for something that none of his buddies had so she called me … from Belgium! Don’t mind the knives, not a good as professional chef’s use but they work fine for me and my tries at cooking good stuff. This is a particularly large piece as it is designed to carry 20 different knives and roll up into a “hang off your shoulder” bag to carry from kitchen to kitchen or home to kitchen. As you may...
Read MoreThis leather slip knife sheath with snap for Doug Hartsook’s Skinner© is a nice piece of work!, even if I do say so myself. The knife obviously speaks for itself. The sheath is another matter entirely. Allow me this opportunity to introduce Buck Early, sheath designer. Buck’s my best friend and we met through our love for knives. I will be featuring a few of Bucks designs as this webpage moves forward. Needless to say, the man has a brain for sheath design. This piece is made of 5-6oz. oil tanned brown leather and is lined with a butterscotch suede. I have perfected a technique whereby the lining does not need to be stitched to the outer shell in order to...
Read MoreBoot Knife Sheath, done the correct way. Have you ever noticed that all boot knife sheaths seem to be made wrong? You know what I mean, the clip forces you to carry the knife either outside of your boot “or” if you carry it inside your boot (which makes the most sense) the handle of the knife is up against your leg instead of the soft leather being against your leg as it should be. Herein lies the serious advantage in custom leather knife sheaths … you can have it made the “right way”. On this page are a few examples of boot knife sheaths I have created. They are designed properly so that the clip holds your knife on the “inside”...
Read MoreA multi tool belt pouch is a must for one of the coolest things to go on your belt, multi tools. Small, relatively light weight and more gadgets than most tool boxes have. This project was yet another interesting one. I received an email from a women in Zambia (yes, Zambia) who wanted something special for her husband on their wedding anniversary. Her husband works at a golf course in Solwezi, Zambia and uses his Leatherman multi-tool daily. She wanted a custom pouch for the leatherman, with her husbands name carved into the front and a quote carved into the back. I took it a step further and carved his signature on the front flap. Pouches can be difficult to get...
Read MoreLeather Knife Sleeve developed specifically for the Hartsook Talon2©. This sheath was modified and developed for a knife maker friend of mine, Doug Hartsook. Doug is a phenomenal knife maker and his work has come a long way from his days making knives in shop in high school. I have done quite a few sheaths for Doug’s knives and you will find them featured as we move forward with this website. You can receive more info concerning Doug’s work at hartsookknivesinc. As the Talon2© is only 4.5″ long, this sheath lends itself to an easy belt carry. This particular sheath is fitted with a titanium clip that is unfortunately no longer available (I am in...
Read MoreThe Dragon PCS© System for every day carry is probably the most difficult and yet the most simple to explain. Difficult, as the pictures show only three of an infinite variety of possibilities. Simple, as the design and construction is only limited by what you carry daily in your pocket. In the top set of pics I created my personal PCS© to carry my Puma 4Star Mini P220 pocket knife, my favorite Blues Guitar Pick, a Tornado Retro 51 mini-pen and a penny (the penny is a private bit that I’ll explain some day in my blog). This particular PCS© is made of 2-3 oz. tooling leather and dyed dark brown with brown thread and rounded and finished edges. The pictures on the...
Read MoreHonestly, this one was fun. Received a telephone call from a gentlemen in West Virginia that wondered if I could do something “interesting” for his Tops Prather War Bowie. He and his buddy like to hog hunt (hawg as we say it in the south). He wanted something in leather vs. the nylon sheath that comes with it. He also wanted to be able to carry it vertical or horizontal on his belt or pack and to be able to strap it to his leg. This custom leather knife sheath has the capability to accomplish all of the above. This sheath is constructed of 4-5oz. tooling leather, is treated with neatsfoot oil for protection against the elements, and well… other stuff....
