Reminiscing over a visit to Larsen’s Pipe Shop in Copenhagen

At one time I was an “over the top” pipe smoker and collector. My collection (still intact) sports a variety of high grade Italians (Castello’s, Ascorti’s, Camenetto’s), many Danish and American free-hands and a wealth of pipe smoking gadgets (knives, tampers, cases, etc.). I hate to admit that I’ve backed off a good bit as it is tough to work on leather with a pipe in your mouth. Anyway, I used to travel internationally quite extensively for a steamship line (cargo, not people) and lived in Europe for three years. I visited Denmark quite often but never really had the time to sight-see until one weekend that I arrived early for a meeting. Actually stayed in an old KGB...

A “BIG” thank you to my customers

Wow, what a long way we’ve come. I started being serious about this business about 15 years ago and got burnt out quick. At the time I was operating out of my garage and a very small room in my basement. My webpage ranking went from page 9,000 something to page one in 6 months. More orders than I had the equipment to handle. I stopped for a while, moved and now have a full shop to work out of. It’s  a major difference working out of a garage in the winter with a jet heater blasting your ears out to a full sized 20 x 35 foot shop with “real” walls, central heat and air and carpet. Racks for supplies, two workbenches for tools and two tables for layout, cutting and...

High End Pocket Clips back in stock

High End Pocket Clips back in stock

Once upon a time there was a famous knife company that made high end gentleman’s pocket knives (This company’s initials are W&H). I had a small supply of the pocket clips that came on the knife sleeves they supplied for their knives but alas, ran out and could not locate additional stock. Sad sad were the days after learning about the unavailability of these clips… Happy happy are the days now that I have found a new supplier!!! These clips are high end stainless steel with a semi-mat/stone washed finish. Clip dimensions are 68mm long x 6.5mm wide x 7mm tall. They can be added to any leather project from Dragonthorn Leatherworks for an extra...

Brief history of Dragonthorn Leatherworks

I had originally posted this info as “About” Dragonthorn Leatherworks in the main menu. I am updating the page a bit but did not want to lose this so am posting it as a blog. Hope everyone does not mind. Dragonthorn Leatherworks was formed over six years ago in Lewisville, NC. I had been dabbling with leather for quite a few years, primarily for personal use. You know, the odd sheath or key-chain here or there. I went the standard gambit like most do, kits, standard needle and thread, old leather coats. Pretty much anything I could find to figure out how it was done. I was teenager in Seattle when I found my fist Tandy Leather Store. Man, I was in heaven....

Update to Pipe Bag Orikawa Blog Post

Quick update to the below blog post. Chris at iBriar.com arrived home safely from a grueling 3 days at the show… (I feel so bad for him… NOT!) I miss going to pipe shows but alas, I’m just too buried in the shop! The bags were apparently a big hit. We are now receiving order inquiries for the bags. Chris and I are working diligently to determine changes to the designs that will make them even better and to nail down the pricing. I have also added and instruction sheet on the Pipe Bag Orikawa webpage to give you all a better ideas of how it works. Stay tuned!...

First www.The-Gadgeteer.com contest award winner

In early November of this year (2012) my PCS design (Pocket Carry System) was reviewed by Julie Strietelmeier of The-Gadgeteer.com (you can read the review here). After a few days Julie and I got together and decided to run a contest for her readers PCS designs with the winners being awarded a full custom PCS, A lined PCS kit and an unlined PCS kit (contest here). We received quite a few excellent entries and the readers of Julie’s blog voted on and selected three that they thought should win. The contest entries and winners can be viewed on Julie’s website here. I have just finished the 1st place winners PCS and thought you might like to see his original design and the...
