How to nail a knife’s dimensions when you do not have the knife in hand

Many of you that are looking at my webpage in order to gain ideas for a sheath for your high end knife probably get a bit worried about “mailing me the knife”. Completely understood I assure you. For any custom sheath maker the easiest method to creating your ultimate sheath is have your knife in hand. Some situations make that a bit difficult however. A prime example would be a project I am working on currently. The gentleman is in Afghanistan at the moment (7,300 miles away) so shipping a knife that distance, not to mention that in Afghanistan he probably needs it daily, can be difficult. What I do is to create a scale drawing of the knife based on information gleaned...

It’s been a tough and busy year

Whew… back in the saddle again as they say. This has been a really busy year for me, both personally and professionally. I am getting ready to take Dragonthorn to the next level of custom leather work and its a job I tell you. Lots of time has been spent on the webpage (on the backend) making it easier to navigate. Much has been done as well on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that my page rankings would increase. And you know what?, it worked! Dragonthorn Leatherworks is now back on page one of Google for custom leatherwork. I have now added a Pinterest page, worked on the Facebook page, added a LinkedIn page and a Google+ page. Now I’ve got to find the...

Dragonthorn Leatherworks “PCS” reviewed by “the-gadgeteer.com”

Yesterday, October 18, 2012 at 11am, Julie Strietelmeier of the-gadgeteer.com posted a very favorable review of my PCS (Pocket Carry System). Within a matter of minutes my web traffic increased 1000%. By the end of the evening it was off the charts! This is all pretty exciting for a custom leather smith that just rebuilt his webpage. It’s actually a very interesting exercise to experience. I built the new page the first of September and have been diligently working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ever since… OK, back on track …  The review was honest, fair and detailed. You can view the full review here (Gadgeteer PCS Review). Whew, what a ride. Thanks Julie, you’re...

Communicating with Dragonthorn Leatherworks

Favor to ask my current and prospective customers. I am now listed on page one on Google so proper communication is becoming a challenge. I prefer email as I can keep up with everything that way but call me if you feel the need at 336-655-6233. If you send me an email and I d not respond within a couple of days, don’t fret, re-communicate. I spend a lot of time in the shop as orders continue to arrive but I do try to keep up with my email at least every couple or three days. I know, good problem to have if you’re in business but what I don’t like is having any customer feel that they are being ignored. Take care and keep in touch…...

Pipe Bag Orikawa

Pipe Bag Orikawa

Pipe Bag Orikawa you say! Well, taking the definition of “Origami” (In Japanese, “ori” means “folding” and “gami” means “paper” so it stands to reason that a folding pipe bag made of leather would be “ori” for folding and “kawa” meaning leather… Orikawa). I should state right up front that if I’ve got this wrong I would appreciate being corrected by anyone speaking/reading/writing Japanese. I was contacted a while back by Chris Lee, owner of iBriar.com with an idea he has been considering for a high-end pipe bag that could be configured in various ways. As normal with custom...
